Mr. Anup Jain is a Founding Partner of Expletus Legal and an Advocate-on-Record before the Supreme Court of India, with an established reputation as a leading practitioner in the field of Energy, Electricity and Regulatory Laws. Over the course of his extensive legal career spanning nearly two decades, he has built a highly specialised and formidable practice centred around India’s power sector, regulatory litigation, infrastructure disputes and complex commercial matters.
Widely recognised for his strategic understanding of the Electricity Act, 2003 and the evolving regulatory architecture governing the Indian power sector, Mr. Jain practice encompasses a broad spectrum of highly technical and high-value disputes involving tariff determination, change in law claims, Power Purchase Agreements (PPAs), fuel supply arrangements, operational parameter disputes, renewable energy obligations, group captive and captive power structures, open access, cross-subsidy surcharge, transmission and wheeling charges, power procurement issues, regulatory compliance and electricity market reforms.
Mr. Jain has represented major public utilities and power sector entities, including MSEDCL and MSETCL, in high-value matters involving substantial financial and regulatory implications. He is particularly known for combining deep sectoral knowledge with strategic litigation expertise and commercially pragmatic solutions.
In addition to his regulatory practice, Mr. Jain regularly advises on arbitration, infrastructure disputes, banking and finance litigation, insolvency proceedings and commercial disputes. His ability to effectively navigate complex multi-forum litigation has made him a trusted advisor to clients operating in highly regulated industries.
Mr. Jain is also known for his leadership within the Firm and his commitment to institutional excellence, mentorship and professional ethics. Under his stewardship, Expletus Legal has developed a strong and respected practice in the fields of Energy & Electricity Laws, Regulatory Litigation and Infrastructure Disputes, and continues to advise clients on some of the most significant legal and regulatory issues in the sector.
He holds a Bachelor of Laws degree (2007 Batch) from Bangalore University and has pursued specialised studies in Intellectual Property Law from NLSIU, Bengaluru. He is a member of the Supreme Court Bar Association and the Advocate-on-Record Association as well as NCLT & AT Bar Association.
